Update: inPOWER+ Staplers

Back in June, I wrote a review of the new inPOWER+ staplers by PaperPro and my team and I gave them 4 paper clips.  Although they did have a couple shortcomings, we felt that they could be easily fixed if the manufacturer chooses to and thought it was overall a good product.

Fast forward two and a half months............................I've been using this stapler daily ever since and, as it turns out, a couple of weeks just wasn't sufficient to show its true colors.  I am downgrading this item from 4 paper clips to 3 paper clips and here's why:

  1. It doesn't do consecutive staples well.  If I am stapling multiple documents one after another, frequently it will depress and strike the paper, but no staple will come out and I have to give it a rest for about 10 seconds (or bang it on the table) in order for it to reset itself.  But who wants to let their stapler rest?
  2. It tips over - A LOT.  I mentioned in my original review that I have to use it on my desktop because a problem with my hands makes it difficult to pick it up and squeeze it.  But when I push down on it to use it, it falls over.  I'm not sure why - it's not really any skinnier than my other standard stapler so I don't think it's a center of gravity issue, but I don't know what it is.  I just know it's really annoying.
  3. It can't staple if another staple is already on the paper.  For instance, you have 3 sheets of paper - two that are already stapled together in the corner and a third that you want to add on.  You don't take the first staple out, you just put the third sheet on the back and staple all 3 together.  Well, the inPOWER+ won't staple those three unless you are trying to do it above the existing staple.  If you try to position it over the original staple so that the new staple will be lower down the page, it won't do it.  Once again, very annoying.  My other staplers will do it with no problem at all.

As I mentioned at the top of this post, it was a team review.  One of my co-workers has experienced these same issues and, like me, has stopped using the inPOWER+.  I went back to my original stapler and put this one on top of a cabinet for anybody else to use.  My third co-worker still likes hers.  Sorry, but it's two against one on this one - 3 paper clips!.
